Job Description:

We are accepting applications for a full-time music therapy research position in the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. CBMT board certification and LCAT license (or limited permit) and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a pediatric medical setting are required. There is a firm research mandate attached to this position and applicants with research experience will be given preference as will applicants who are multi-lingual. Highly self-directed and organized clinicians should apply. The weekly schedule is 10am-6pm, M-F, and staff do rotations of two weekend days per quarter.

About the setting:
The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s hospital is a high-acuity medical/surgical hospital located on the upper east side of Manhattan. We work with patients from newborn- 22 years of age who present with a wide range of diagnoses including various forms of chronic illness, solid organ transplants, metabolic disorders, and other forms of illness or injury requiring ICU care. We serve a multi-cultural population with Spanish-speaking and Orthodox Jewish families being amongst the most represented groups. This is a fast-paced setting in which strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills are essential.

A core responsibility of this position is to devise and implement music therapy research, as well as carry out continuation of present research studies, including doing literature review, constructing IRB proposals, and coordinating all research activity between physicians and medical staff, and music therapists. Additionally, this music therapist maintains an ongoing caseload.

Job responsibilities and areas of competency include:

• Designing, organizing, implementing and overseeing research projects to reach fulfill research mandate tied to funding of this position.
• Providing comprehensive music therapy services to pediatric patients and family members that meet emotional, physical, cognitive, social/cultural and communicative needs. This includes pain management, procedural support and working with patients at end-of-life and providing interventions for bereaved families.
• Provide coverage for scheduled therapeutic/activity groups in the Zone.
• Engaging in multi-modal treatment planning and ongoing coordination of care with Child Life Specialists.
• Music therapy assessments and development of treatment plans.
• Documentation of music therapy processes and outcomes in medical charts.
• Effective communication with Child Life staff and interdisciplinary team around clinical care planning and issues revealed through music therapy sessions.
• Active participation in interdisciplinary clinical supervision group and individual supervision meetings.
• Keep music therapy statistics, required for departmental quality assurance efforts.
• Supervision of graduate music therapy interns.
• Strong adherence to infection control procedures and protocols.
• Occasional moderate-heavy lifting is involved.
