Title: Chair of the Center for Music Therapy
Status: Full-Time – 40 hours/week
(An initial schedule includes a suggestion of 10% direct service and 90% administrative duties)

Oversees: Music Therapy Staff and Center Operations
Works Closely With: Music Therapy Staff, Employee & Customer Service Office, Senior Staff and
President & CEO

About the Opportunity:
The Chair of the Center for Music Therapy (MT Chair) of The Music Settlement (TMS) will be a
visionary leader responsible for supervising and directing all aspects of the Center’s strategic vision,
public visibility, and managerial operations. Reporting to the President & CEO, the MT Chair will be
the senior staff member accountable for the Music Therapy Center and will energize and execute all
components of the Center’s strategic plan that relate to the Center and music therapy. The Chair shall
foster professional relationships with the Board, faculty, staff, parents, clients, partner organizations,
foundations, government agencies, individual donors, and music therapy professional organizations.
The Chair will demonstrate passion for the profession and TMS’ mission and the opportunity to bring
strategic and visionary thinking, innovation, relevant research, and thought leadership to the practice
of music therapy at TMS. The Chair shall project warmth and energy, confidence, and proven
leadership, as well as compassion, while leading a well-respected, historic music therapy program
focused on a clinical music therapy model and working with diverse populations. The Chair will also
oversee best practices in hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising music therapists, interns, and
practicum students while maximizing earned and contributed revenues.

Founded in 1912 by Almeda Adams, it has grown into a five-building campus surrounding the treasured 1910 Burke Mansion in the historic Magnolia Wade Park District. In addition, the Music Settlement owns and operates the BOP STOP performance venue in Ohio City. The Music Settlement works with an extensive network of outreach partnerships throughout Greater Cleveland and beyond to broaden our reach of programs and services. The Music Settlement’s second location, located a few blocks from BOP STOP, opened in the fall of 2018. This second campus houses early childhood classrooms, as well as music rooms for music instruction and music therapy.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Music Therapy or a related field; Board
Certified with 7 or more years’ experience post internship.
Current membership in the American Music Therapy Association and associated regional
Association of Music Therapy. Prior experience in one or more of the following: community-based
music therapy services (community school of the arts, private practice, outreach program); clinical
practice with a variety of population groups (ages and disabilities); music therapy program; and
personnel management and development. Also preferred are experiences with objective research and
mixed methods of research techniques, publication, and presentation. Demonstrated effective written
and oral communication skills are required.
