FT Assistant or Associate Professor – Music Therapy, College of Creative Arts

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 12, 2022 (Classes begin August 17, 2022)

JOB DESCRIPTION: A full-time, nine-month tenure-track appointment. The primary assignment includes (a) teaching music therapy courses, (b) facilitating and supervising music therapy clinical fieldwork and internships, (c) serving as liaison with internship site supervisors, and (d) potentially contributing to the formation of a Master’s degree in music therapy and a music therapy equivalency with future teaching, recruiting, and advising responsibilities at the graduate level. Participation in School of Music activities, attracting and retaining students, and faculty governance is required. The candidate will be expected to maintain a professional profile through publication, presentation, scholarship, clinical, and/or research/creative activity and will help fulfill West Virginia University’s land-grant mission through community outreach or partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS (must be met by the time of appointment): The successful candidate must have earned a  Master’s degree in Music Therapy (applicants who have a PhD or are ABD are also encouraged to apply). The successful candidate will (a) have Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC), (b), have a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a music therapist, and (c) meet all requirements for Undergraduate Academic Faculty as outlined in the AMTA Standards for Education and Clinical Training. In accordance with West Virginia University’s Procedures for Faculty Appointment, Annual Evaluation, Promotion, and Tenure, to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate must be an accomplished university-level educator and a nationally-recognized researcher with an established publication and presentation record.
