MAR-AMTA STATEMENT ON ANTI-ASIAN RACIST ATTACKS
[Image Description: Square with beige textured background. Grey/Silver square border around black text that reads, “MAR-AMTA Statement on Anti-Asian Racist Attacks”]

The Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Music Therapy Association condemns the anti-Asian racist attacks throughout the country. The Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities have experienced exponential increases in anti-Asian racism since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, making Asians the third most targeted group for violence in the United States behind Black people and Jewish people. We stand in solidarity with the AAPI communities and in support of what our AAPI music therapy professionals and students may need at this time.

The Asian Music Therapy Network – U.S. is a closed affinity group on Facebook that welcomes Asian-, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander-identifying music therapists from all over the world. Their leadership is hard at work creating opportunities for online community gatherings and other forms of support. Please see their statement, which the MAR-AMTA Executive Board fully endorses.
